Property Tax, Titling and Agreements for Same-Sex and Unmarried Couples
If you work with same-sex couples, this presentation should not be missed!
The past year has seen dramatic changes not only in the federal recognition of same-sex marriage, but also in rules relating to California property taxes for co-owners who are not married to each other and are not domestic partners. Both of these changes can have dramatic and very expensive consequences for co-owners of property, whether married, unmarried, domestic partnered, or not. Many of the changes can be addressed simply with property agreements, re-deeding of property, and other estate planning tools.
Program topics include:
• |
Titling and tax issues for same-sex married couples after the repeal of DOMA Section 3 |
• |
Dramatic changes to property tax and titling rules for unmarried co-owners since 2013 |
• |
The role of written property co-ownership agreements in avoiding tax problems and litigation |
